Central African Republic
Hunting Season:
The Savannah is best hunted from January through April, with ambient temperatures rising as
the months of the year progress. This is also the breeding season of the Lord Derby’s Giant Eland, when the bulls have mantles of luxurious black hair covering the neck and deep dewlap, for which this specie is well known. It is for this major reason that the first three, coolest months of each year are considered as a prime time to hunt the magnificent Lord Derby’s Eland bulls and, when Hunters from all over the world make the pilgrimage to Central African Republic.
Hunting Methods:
As a rule, there are no short-cuts to hunting the Lord Derby’s Giant Eland and only fair-chase methods are employed, tracking on foot, as for most species. Baiting for Lions is not permitted and it is one of the greatest, most thrilling experiences in a Hunter’s life to track down a Lion on foot, or to call a male Lion to the gun, a skill for which our trackers are known to be experts.
Safari Camps:
Our two Camps, Ndji and Yassa, are set in comfortable environments. These Camps are constructed in the traditional Bougarou style from local timbers and woven grass walls, with thatch for coolness and with showers and toilets. Refrigerators and deep-freezers provide cold beverages and ice for drinks. The cuisine is French in flavour and good wines and bar facilities with soft drinks, beer and spirits are provided. A satellite telephone is available in Camp.
